Survival mode isn’t always dramatic.

Sometimes it looks like being productive every single day while still feeling like you’re going nowhere.

The Hardest Part About Starting Over

Starting over can mess with your head.

Especially when you feel like you should already be further ahead.

You start looking at everybody else.

Their businesses.

Their houses.

Their followers.

Their income screenshots.

Their “I made $10,000 while I was sleeping” posts. 😂

And suddenly you’re comparing somebody else’s highlight reel to the hardest chapter of your own life.

Step 1: Stop Trying to Fix Everything at Once

This was a big one.

When life feels out of control, your instinct is to fix everything immediately.

Money.

Business.

Career.

Health.

House.

Relationships.

Everything.

But rebuilding works better one brick at a time.

Pick the area that will create the most stability and start there.

Step 2: Stop Chasing Every New Business Opportunity

This is especially important if you’re trying to make money online.

One week it’s dropshipping.

Next week it’s Amazon.

Then somebody says AI automation.

Then TikTok Shop.

Then crypto.

Then somebody has a “secret method” that supposedly made them $47,328 last Tuesday. 😂

Before you know it, you’ve bought six courses, registered four domains and made exactly…

$0.

The problem isn’t necessarily that every opportunity is bad.

The problem is that you never stay with one thing long enough to build momentum.

Step 3: Build Something You Own

This changed the way I started thinking about online business.

Social media is powerful.

YouTube is powerful.

TikTok is powerful.

Facebook is powerful.

But those platforms belong to somebody else.

Algorithms change.

Accounts can lose reach.

Programs can change.

Platforms can disappear.

That’s why I like having my own website as the foundation of an online business.

Step 4: Learn a Business Model Instead of Looking for a Shortcut

One of the business models I’ve continued coming back to is affiliate marketing.

And the basic concept isn’t complicated.

You create useful content around a topic.

People find that content.

You recommend relevant products or services.

If someone purchases through your affiliate link, you may earn a commission.

Simple concept.

But simple does NOT mean instant.

You still have to learn how to choose a niche, build useful content, attract traffic and make recommendations people trust.

Step 5: Create More Than One Way to Make Money

This is another lesson survival mode taught me.

Depending completely on one source of income can feel scary when that source changes.

An online brand can potentially open several monetization paths over time.

You don’t need to launch all of those tomorrow.

Start with one.

Then build from there.

Step 6: Give Yourself Permission to Start Small

Your first website might not look amazing.

Your first video might get 12 views.

Your first article might not rank.

Your first affiliate link might get zero clicks.

That’s okay.

You’re building skills AND a business at the same time.

Every article teaches you something.

Every video teaches you something.

Every mistake teaches you something.

The goal is progress—not pretending you’re already at the finish line.

My Rebuilding Rule

That’s the part we sometimes forget.

When everything falls apart, our first instinct is to put everything back exactly the way it was.

But what if the old way wasn’t working?

What if rebuilding gives you an opportunity to ask:

What do I actually want my life to look like?

How much time do I want for myself?

What kind of work do I want to do?

What kind of business fits my life?

What am I no longer willing to tolerate?

Those questions matter just as much as how much money you want to make.
