How to Scrape Leads From Search: Using Lead Hero to Find Your Own Prospects

Still paying for lead lists when you could be building targeted prospect lists yourself?

In this tutorial, I’m showing you how I use Lead Hero to search for potential business leads and turn search results into information you can actually use for prospecting.

Find the businesses. Build the list. Then start the outreach.

Okay y’all…

If you’ve ever tried to find potential customers or businesses to contact, you already know how tedious this can get.

You search Google.

You open a business website.

You look for the contact page.

You copy the business name.

You copy the website.

You hunt for an email.

Then you put everything into a spreadsheet.

And after doing all that work you look down and realize…

Baby, I got ELEVEN leads. 😂

That’s why lead-generation tools caught my attention.

Instead of manually researching businesses one at a time, the idea is to use software to help speed up the prospecting and list-building process.

⚡ QUICK ANSWER:

If your business depends on finding potential customers, clients or companies to contact, a search-based lead-generation tool can potentially save you hours of repetitive research. But finding a contact is only step one—you still need a legitimate offer and a good outreach strategy.

In the video below, I walk through how to scrape leads from search using Lead Hero and show you the process as a beginner.

What Does “Scraping Leads” Actually Mean?

Don’t let the word scraping make this sound more complicated than it needs to be.

For the purpose of this tutorial, we’re talking about using software to help collect and organize publicly available business information from search results instead of manually copying information one business at a time.

Think about searching for:

  • Roofing companies in Dallas
  • Hair salons in Atlanta
  • Real estate agents in Charlotte
  • Plumbers in Columbia
  • Dentists in Houston
  • Marketing agencies in Miami
  • Restaurants in a specific city
  • Local contractors in a target market

Those searches can potentially reveal hundreds of businesses that fit a particular niche or location.

The challenge is turning all those search results into an organized prospecting list.

The Manual Way

Search → click business → find website → hunt for contact information → copy it → open spreadsheet → paste it → repeat.

The Software-Assisted Way

Define the type of business you’re looking for → run your search → collect the available results → organize/export the information → review the list → begin qualified outreach.

Why Build Your Own Lead Lists?

There are several reasons I like the idea of building a targeted prospect list instead of automatically buying a generic list.

🎯

Target Your Own Niche

You decide what type of business or prospect you’re looking for instead of accepting whatever happens to be inside a prebuilt list.

📍

Choose the Location

If your offer is location-specific, you can focus your research around the cities or markets you actually want to serve.

⏱️

Save Research Time

Software can reduce some of the repetitive work involved in manually researching businesses one by one.

📊

Stay Organized

A structured prospect list is much easier to work with than 47 browser tabs you swear you’re going to come back to later. 😂

How to Find Leads With Search

Here’s the basic strategy I want you to understand.

1

Choose Who You Want to Reach

Do NOT start by trying to collect every business on the internet.

Start with a specific target.

For example:

Roofing companies.

That’s already better than saying: “I need business leads.”

2

Choose a Location

Now narrow the search further.

Instead of:

Roofing companies

Try:

Roofing companies in Dallas, Texas

Now you’ve created a much more specific prospecting target.

3

Run the Search

This is where a tool such as Lead Hero can help automate parts of the research process demonstrated in my video.

Instead of manually opening every search result, you’re using software to speed up the collection and organization process.

4

Review the Results

This part matters.

More leads does NOT automatically mean better leads.

Review the information and ask:

  • Is this actually the type of business I want?
  • Is it still operating?
  • Does my offer make sense for this company?
  • Is the contact information appropriate for my outreach?
5

Organize or Export Your Prospects

Once you’ve identified appropriate prospects, organize the data into a format you can actually work with.

That might include fields such as:

  • Business name
  • Website
  • Location
  • Public business phone number
  • Public business email when available
  • Industry
  • Notes
  • Outreach status
6

Research Before You Contact

This is where you separate real prospecting from spam.

Don’t just export 5,000 contacts and blast:

“HEY!!! BUY MY STUFF!!!” 😂

Take a minute to understand the business.

Look at its website.

Figure out whether there’s actually a reason your product or service could help.

The Biggest Lead Generation Mistake

A lot of beginners become obsessed with the NUMBER of leads.

They want:

1,000 leads.

10,000 leads.

100,000 leads.

But I would rather have:

100 relevant prospects than 10,000 random contacts.

Why?

Because a list isn’t valuable simply because it’s big.

It’s valuable when it contains people or businesses that actually match what you’re offering.

🎯 BETTER STRATEGY:

Don’t ask, “How many leads can I scrape?” Ask, “How many qualified businesses can I identify that have a realistic reason to care about what I’m offering?”

Who Could Use Search-Based Lead Generation?

💻 Marketing Agencies

Build lists of businesses that potentially need marketing, advertising, websites or lead-generation services.

🎨 Freelancers

Designers, editors, writers and other service providers can research companies that may need their skills.

🤖 AI Automation Businesses

Research businesses that may benefit from chatbots, automation, appointment systems or other technology solutions.

🏢 B2B Companies

Businesses selling products or services to other businesses can use targeted prospect research to build their sales pipeline.

📞 Sales Professionals

Organized prospect lists can help salespeople focus their outreach on appropriate potential customers.

🚀 New Entrepreneurs

Researching prospects can also help you understand whether a potential market actually contains enough businesses to target.

Lead Generation Is NOT the Same as Selling

This is something I really want beginners to understand.

Finding a business is step one.

Getting their contact information is step two.

But then what?

You still need:

  • A legitimate product or service
  • A clear value proposition
  • A reason for that particular prospect to care
  • An appropriate outreach message
  • A follow-up process
  • A way to track responses
  • A way to convert interested prospects into customers

Think of Lead Hero as Part of the Pipeline

TARGET → FIND → QUALIFY → CONTACT → FOLLOW UP → CONVERT

Finding prospects can make the beginning of that pipeline faster. It doesn’t replace everything that comes afterward.

How I Would Use Lead Hero as a Beginner

If I were starting from scratch, I would NOT immediately try to pull thousands and thousands of prospects.

I’d run a small test.

For example:

🧪 My Beginner Lead Test

Niche: Roofing companies

Market: Dallas, Texas

Initial goal: Build a small targeted prospect list

Next step: Review each prospect and identify the businesses that actually fit my offer.

Then: Test a personalized outreach message and measure the response.

Why start small?

Because you need to know whether your OFFER and MESSAGE work before you spend your time building a gigantic list.

If nobody responds to 50 well-targeted prospects, your first reaction shouldn’t necessarily be:

“I NEED 50,000 MORE EMAIL ADDRESSES!” 😂

You may need to fix the offer.

What Information Should You Keep?

I like keeping prospect data simple.

  • Business: Who am I contacting?
  • Website: Where can I research them?
  • Location: Are they in my target market?
  • Contact: What appropriate public business contact method is available?
  • Need: Why might they need what I’m offering?
  • Status: Have I contacted them?
  • Response: What happened?
  • Follow-up: What should happen next?

Don’t Skip Compliance

⚠️ IMPORTANT:

Finding publicly available business information does not automatically mean you can contact anyone in any manner you want.

Email, telephone and text-message marketing can be subject to different laws, consent requirements, platform rules and industry requirements depending on where you and the recipient are located.

Use prospecting tools responsibly, honor opt-outs and applicable do-not-contact requirements, and make sure your outreach practices comply with the laws and rules that apply to your business.

Is Lead Hero Worth Trying?

For me, the interesting question isn’t:

“Can software find a bunch of businesses?”

The real question is:

“Can this save me enough prospecting time to make my business more efficient?”

If you regularly need to research potential business prospects, then automating some of that repetitive work could be valuable.

If you don’t actually have an offer, target customer or outreach strategy yet, I would work on those first.

How to Turn a Lead List Into an Actual System

This is where people get caught up.

They spend all their time collecting information…

and none of their time building a process.

Your system might look something like:

1

Find

Research businesses that match your ideal customer.

2

Qualify

Remove businesses that don’t actually fit your offer.

3

Personalize

Understand why each prospect might realistically benefit from what you’re offering.

4

Contact

Use an appropriate and compliant outreach method.

5

Track

Record who responded, who didn’t and what objections you’re hearing.

6

Improve

Use the data to improve your targeting, offer and message before scaling.

Could You Make Money With This Strategy?

Potentially—but the money doesn’t come from scraping.

That’s an important distinction.

The business opportunity comes from what you DO after identifying the prospect.

For example, somebody might use prospect research as part of a business offering:

  • Website design
  • SEO
  • Social-media management
  • Video editing
  • AI automation
  • Appointment setting
  • Marketing services
  • Business consulting
  • Other legitimate B2B services

The lead tool helps you identify potential prospects.

Your skill and offer are what potentially create the business.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is lead scraping?

Lead scraping generally refers to using software to collect and organize prospect information from online sources rather than manually copying every piece of information individually.

Can I find business leads from search?

Search engines and business listings can be useful for researching companies by industry, keyword and location. Specialized software can sometimes make collecting and organizing relevant public business information faster.

Is Lead Hero good for beginners?

The video above demonstrates the Lead Hero workflow from a beginner’s perspective. Whether it is appropriate for you depends on your prospecting needs, budget and the current features included with the product.

Do I need a website to generate leads?

Not necessarily for prospect research, although having a professional online presence can be useful when potential clients research you after receiving your outreach.

Can I sell scraped leads?

Lead collection, sharing and selling can raise contractual, privacy and regulatory issues depending on the source of the information, type of data, jurisdiction and intended use. Don’t assume that information being accessible online automatically gives you unrestricted rights to collect, resell or market to it.

How many leads should a beginner collect?

I prefer starting with a smaller, highly targeted test list rather than collecting thousands of contacts immediately. Test your targeting, offer and outreach process first, then scale based on actual results.

Stop Hunting for Leads One at a Time

If prospect research is eating up hours of your day, see whether Lead Hero can make your workflow faster.

Final Thoughts

Lead generation isn’t about collecting the biggest spreadsheet possible.

It’s about finding the RIGHT people.

If you’re manually searching for businesses one at a time, software may be able to speed up a lot of that repetitive research.

But don’t forget the part that software can’t magically fix.

Your offer.

Your message.

Your reputation.

Your follow-up.

And whether you actually solve a problem somebody cares about.

Use technology to find opportunities faster—but build a real business by giving those prospects a reason to talk to you.
