These Work From Home Jobs Are Hiring — But Nobody Wants Them

Everybody wants a remote job…until they find out what some of these work-from-home jobs actually require. If you’re willing to handle phones, customers, sales, quotas, or less glamorous work, there may be opportunities other job seekers overlook.

These Work From Home Jobs Are Hiring But Nobody Wants Them

Everybody says they want to work from home.

No commute.

No sitting in traffic.

No manager walking past your desk every 12 minutes.

You can work in sweatpants.

Your refrigerator is six steps away.

Sounds PERFECT. 😂

Then you start looking at remote jobs and discover something.

The easiest-looking remote jobs aren’t necessarily the easiest jobs to GET.

A lot of people are chasing the same attractive positions:

“No phone calls.”

“Flexible hours.”

“Entry level.”

“Great pay.”

“Work whenever you want.”

But there are other types of work-from-home jobs that people sometimes scroll right past.

And THAT’S where I want you looking.

🎥 Watch: These Work From Home Jobs Are Hiring — But Nobody Wants Them

Watch my full video below, then keep reading because I’m breaking down the kinds of remote jobs people often overlook—and what you should know before applying.

Why Would Nobody Want a Work-From-Home Job?

“Nobody” is obviously an exaggeration.

People absolutely apply for these jobs.

But some remote positions aren’t nearly as glamorous as the jobs you see people bragging about on TikTok.

They may involve:

☎️ Being on the phone most of the day

😤 Dealing with frustrated customers

📊 Meeting performance quotas

💰 Selling products or services

📅 Working evenings or weekends

🔁 Repetitive tasks

🎧 Having calls monitored

📈 Meeting productivity requirements

🗣️ Talking to strangers all day

And that’s exactly why these jobs can be worth adding to your search.

📊 Here’s a Real Example

Customer service isn’t the flashy remote career everybody dreams about.

But the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics says customer service representatives are employed across nearly every industry, and working from home is possible at some companies.

The occupation had a median wage of $20.59 per hour in May 2024.

Even though total employment is projected to decline, BLS projects about 341,700 openings per year, on average, through 2034, largely because workers leave the occupation or move into other jobs.

7 Work-From-Home Jobs People Often Overlook

🎧

1. Customer Service Representative

This is probably one of the first categories I’d search if getting a legitimate work-from-home job matters more to you than having a glamorous job title.

Customer service representatives may:

Answer customer questions

Handle complaints

Process orders

Help with billing

Make account changes

Process returns

Provide product information

The downside?

People don’t usually call customer service because they’re having the BEST DAY OF THEIR LIFE. 😂

You need patience, communication skills and the ability to stay calm when somebody is upset.

📞

2. Appointment Setter

Appointment setters contact potential customers and schedule calls or meetings for sales representatives.

This can involve:

Calling leads

Following up with prospects

Sending messages

Confirming appointments

Updating a CRM

Meeting appointment goals

If you hate hearing the word “no,” this may not be for you.

But if you’re comfortable talking to people, it can be worth investigating.

💰

3. Remote Sales Representative

I know.

You saw “sales” and were about to scroll right past it. 😂

That’s exactly my point.

Not everybody wants to sell.

Some sales jobs involve cold calling, quotas and rejection.

Others involve speaking with people who already expressed interest.

Compensation structures vary significantly, so always determine whether the position offers:

✔ Hourly pay

✔ Salary

✔ Commission

✔ Salary plus commission

✔ Performance bonuses

Know how you’re getting paid BEFORE accepting the job.

💳

4. Collections Representative

Now THIS is one people may skip.

A collections representative may contact customers regarding overdue accounts and help discuss payment options.

It’s not necessarily an easy job.

You’re talking to people about money.

Sometimes people who don’t HAVE the money.

That requires professionalism, patience and the ability to follow company procedures and applicable rules.

🛡️

5. Insurance Customer Service

Insurance companies need people to help customers with:

Policy questions

Billing questions

Coverage information

Claims-related inquiries

Account updates

Some insurance roles require licenses, while others don’t.

Read the job description carefully and determine whether the employer provides required training or licensing support.

🖥️

6. Technical Support

You don’t necessarily need to be a computer programmer to work in technical support.

Depending on the company, representatives may help customers:

Reset passwords

Troubleshoot devices

Navigate software

Set up accounts

Resolve common technical problems

If you’re the person everybody in your family calls when the Wi-Fi stops working, this might be worth researching. 😂

🌙

7. Evening, Weekend & Overnight Remote Support

Everybody wants Monday through Friday.

Everybody wants daytime hours.

Everybody wants weekends off.

So broaden the search.

Companies with customers across different time zones may need support outside traditional business hours.

The schedule everybody else avoids may be the schedule that gets your foot in the door.

💻🏠 + 🎧☎️ = 💵

Stop Searching Only for the “Perfect” Remote Job

Sometimes the opportunity is hiding inside the job everybody else keeps scrolling past.

Search for the WORK — Not Just “Work From Home”

Here’s another mistake.

People go to a job board and type:

WORK FROM HOME

That’s too broad.

Try searching actual job titles instead.

🔎 Remote customer service representative

🔎 Remote call center representative

🔎 Remote appointment setter

🔎 Remote sales representative

🔎 Remote insurance customer service

🔎 Remote technical support

🔎 Remote collections representative

🔎 Remote customer retention specialist

🔎 Remote member services representative

🔎 Remote overnight customer support

Then read the qualifications.

Don’t automatically reject yourself because you don’t meet every preferred qualification.

No Experience? Look for Transferable Skills

You may have more experience than you think.

Worked retail?

You have customer service experience.

Worked at a restaurant?

Customer service, multitasking and conflict resolution.

Worked reception?

Phones, scheduling and customer communication.

Worked in healthcare?

Documentation, customer interaction and potentially sensitive information.

Ran your own small business?

Sales, customer service, scheduling, marketing and problem-solving.

Stop asking, “Have I had this exact job?”

Start asking, “What have I already done that proves I can DO this job?”

⚠️ But Watch Out for Fake Work-From-Home Jobs

This part is extremely important.

Remote job seekers are a huge target for scammers.

The Federal Trade Commission warns that scammers advertise fake work-from-home jobs and may be after your money or personal information.

Here are some major warning signs:

🚩 They ask you to PAY to get the job.

🚩 They promise huge money for almost no work.

🚩 They send you a check to buy equipment and tell you to send some money back.

🚩 They ask for sensitive financial information unusually early.

🚩 The recruiter uses a suspicious personal email address.

🚩 You can’t verify the opening on the company’s official career website.

🚩 Everything happens suspiciously fast.

🚨 Don’t Pay Someone to Give You a Job

The FTC’s advice is simple: honest employers don’t charge you for the promise of employment.

And if someone sends you a check and then asks you to send money somewhere else, don’t do it.

What About Those “Appointment Setter” Jobs on Social Media?

Be especially careful here.

Appointment setting itself is a real type of work.

But scammers have also used appointment-setting advertisements to sell expensive training programs while promising unrealistic income or guaranteed employment.

If it’s an actual JOB, you should not have to pay thousands of dollars to the employer before they’ll hire you.

Paying for a course and being hired for a job are two very different things.

But What If You Don’t Want Another Job?

Now we’re getting to the other side of this conversation.

Maybe you DO want to work from home…

But you don’t want:

Another boss.

Another schedule.

Another call queue.

Another performance review.

Another company deciding what your time is worth.

Then maybe your goal isn’t simply:

“Find a work-from-home job.”

Maybe it’s:

“Learn how to build income from home.”

Those are two completely different goals.

Working From Home vs. Building an Online Business

Work-From-Home Job Online Business
Employer pays you Customers/advertisers/partners generate revenue
Employer usually sets responsibilities You choose the business model
More predictable compensation if employed Income may be unpredictable, especially early
Company provides the business You build the business
Potentially faster path to a paycheck May take significant time before earning income

I’m NOT telling you an online business is easier.

It isn’t.

But if your long-term goal is building something of your own, then you need a different set of skills.

That’s Where Affiliate Marketing Comes In

One online business model I talk about here is affiliate marketing.

The basic concept is simple:

Create Useful Content

⬇️

Attract an Audience

⬇️

Recommend Relevant Products or Services

⬇️

Earn a Commission on Qualifying Actions or Purchases

It isn’t instant money.

You have to learn how websites, content, traffic and marketing work.

That’s why I recommend learning the fundamentals instead of buying another “make $10,000 next week” program.

💻🚀

Frequently Asked Questions

What are some overlooked work-from-home jobs?

Customer service, appointment setting, sales, technical support, collections, insurance customer service and evening or overnight support are examples of remote job categories worth researching.

Can I get a work-from-home job without experience?

Some entry-level positions provide on-the-job training. Customer service representatives, for example, typically need a high school diploma or equivalent and receive short-term on-the-job training, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. Requirements vary by employer.

How can I tell if a remote job is a scam?

Be cautious if you’re asked to pay for a job, send money after depositing a check, provide sensitive financial information before a legitimate hiring process, or accept unusually high pay for very little work. Verify the opening through the company’s official website.

Are appointment setter jobs legitimate?

Appointment setting is a legitimate type of work, but fake opportunities also exist. Be particularly careful with advertisements promising unusually high income or requiring you to pay large upfront training fees to supposedly secure employment.

Is affiliate marketing the same as a work-from-home job?

No. Affiliate marketing is a business and marketing model, not employment. There is no guaranteed paycheck, and building meaningful traffic and revenue may require substantial time and effort.

Final Thoughts

If you need income now, don’t get so focused on finding the perfect remote job that you overlook a perfectly legitimate opportunity.

Maybe customer service isn’t your dream.

Maybe you don’t want to answer phones forever.

Maybe working weekends isn’t ideal.

That’s okay.

Your first remote job doesn’t have to be your FOREVER job.

Sometimes you need to get in the door.

Build experience.

Learn new skills.

Make some money.

Then move to the next opportunity.

If everybody is running toward the same opportunity…

Sometimes it pays to look where they’re NOT looking.

And if you eventually decide you’d rather build something for yourself instead of working remotely for someone else, start learning the skills required to do that too.

🏠💻💵

Two Paths. One Goal: More Options.

Need a paycheck? Start looking at overlooked remote jobs. Want to build something of your own? Start learning online business skills.
